Ayreon - Condemned To Live (The Source) 2017

Condemned to Live is the seventh and final song of the first disc of The Source. It is the fourth and final song of Chronicle 2: The Alignment of the Ten, and the seventh song of the album. The length is 6:14. It is preceeded by Run! Apocalypse! Run! and followed by Aquatic Race.

Plot Edit

Utterly defeated, the characters lament having to leave their loved ones and indeed the entirety of humanity behind. It seems having to bear the entire weight of a species on your shoulders is quite a mental burden to bear, and all are having a hard time with it. The Chemist and The Diplomat discuss the urge to use Liquid Eternity, and this is the first time it is referred to as The Source.

Additionally, this song contains some interesting lines on a biological topic, so of course The Diplomat utters those, rather than the Biologist.

Characters/singers Edit

The Opposition Leader (Tommy Karevik)

The Diplomat (Michael Eriksen)

The Counselor (Simone Simons)

The Chemist (Tommy Rogers)

The Biologist (Floor Jansen)

The Historian (James LaBrie)

Lyrics Edit

[Historian]
I can't believe it really happened, it’s all slowly sinking in
I left behind a hopeless race to fight a war they cannot win

[Chemist]
My petty life, it seems so trivial, a whole world is about to die
If all those billions fade away , then who am I... to stay alive

[Historian]
Condemned to live, doomed to leave my world to die

[Chemist]
The guilt weighs heavy on my mind

[Historian]
Trapped in this void, deprived of dignity and joy

[Chemist]
Their secret hopes and dreams destroyed

[Diplomat]
We’re about to start our journey, so focus on what lies ahead

[Chemist]
Liquid Eternity

[Diplomat]
We have the chance to save our future, we’re alive, the past is dead

[Chemist]
The Source will set us free

[Diplomat]
We need to find a way to thrive there, preservation of our race

[Chemist]
Liquid Eternity

[Diplomat]
An alteration, gene mutation, transformation of our strain

[Chemist]
The Source will set us free

[Counselor]
Condemned to live, doomed to leave our world to die
The guilt weighs heavy on our mind
Trapped in this void, deprived of dignity and joy
Their secret hopes and dreams destroyed

[Opposition Leader]
Condemned to live, doomed to leave our world to die

[Biologist]
A fate we could not avoid

[Opposition Leader]
The guilt weighs heavy on our minds

[Biologist]
But we had no other choice

[Opposition Leader]
Trapped in this void, deprived of joy

[Biologist]
Now we need to think of ourselves

[Opposition Leader]
Their secret hopes and dreams destroyed

[Biologist]
We need to break out of this hell!
