Ayreon - Day Sixteen Loser (The Human Equation) 2004

Day Sixteen: Loser is the fifth song on the second disc of The Human Equation, and the sixteenth song of the entire album. Its length is 4:46. It is preceded by Day Fifteen: Betrayal, and followed by Day Seventeen: Accident?.

Plot[]

Me is visited by his Father. The Father just came to gloat over his son, and through mockery shows that he is ironically the true loser in relation to his son and in life in general.

Singers[]

Lyrics[]

[Father]
Look at you, lying there, defenceless and alone
See I'm no fool, I always knew you wouldn't make it on your own
Cos you're just like your mother, well where is she now?
You'll end up like her soon, 6 feet under ground, loser!

I came here to watch you bleed, oh how I love to gloat
If you had any balls at all, you'd grab me by the throat
You don't even look like me, ha! Not even close!
You're an aberration, some freak...I suppose, loser!

I had my fun, I'm going back to the place I don't call home
There's no one there who waits for me, but you won't hear me moan
My ex-wives all sue me, and with half my kids in jail
I'll still come out laughing, coz me? I never fail, loser!

[Rage]
NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER!
Killing it from afar, go tell it in a bar
You're killing it from afar my father!

During the Ayreon Universe concert at 013 Tilburg on the 17th of September 2017, this song was also performed. It featured an adjusted version, with Michael Mills performing the vocals.

Mike's singing was much more free-form than the album version, and many of the intonations appeared to be improvised. However, when compared to the live version performed during the first live performance during The Theater Equation, it becomes apparent that many of the "improvisations" were copied from back then.

In addition, the lyric "My ex-wives all sue me" was replaced by "my ex-girlfriends all hate me", and the original vocals by Rage were performed by Irene Jansen, Lisette van den Berg, Marcela Bovio and Magali Luyten, who then pushed Mike Mills around on stage.
